Music from Iraq (project Refugees for refugees)

Najem is one of the very greatest Iraqi masters of the qanun, a type of harp with 81 strings that is played horizontally. He studied and taught at Baghdad Conservatory. When the situation in his homeland became unstable, he first moved to Tunisia and later on to Belgium, where he is now hard at work, passing on his passion for the qanun to others. Driessens is a Belgian born ûd player and musicologist. He is regarded as one of the finest performers of the ûd in Belgium, creating a style entirely of his own.
