Complex operations on the heart

Peyman Sardari Nia, PhD
assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery

Surgical procedures are composed of hundreds of technical steps performed by an operative team. We are never able to reproduce the exact operation, although we aim to reproduce the results. This is where art meets science. Whereas an artwork is characterised by uniqueness, science is all about reproducibility. To enhance our procedures, we need to move from craftsmanship to smart surgery. Sardari will explore these new developments and give a glimpse into complex cardiac procedures.
