Sustainability and meaning in life

Why should we care about the future? One popular reason is that we are obliged to do so for the next generations. However, it is difficult to give a philosophical basis for the rights of these generations. There are more ‘meaningful’ reasons for caring about the future. Activities that actually give meaning to our life usually assume that they can be continued after our own involvement as well. So we need future generations in order to experience our own life as meaningful.
