The name Damast Duo is inspired by damask, the luxurious textile from Damascus in Syria. Damask spread all over the world through trading along the silk road, and this cultural crossover between East and West is what outlines Damast Duo’s music. With this in mind, Syrian violinist Shalan Alhamwy and Belgian accordionist Jonas Malfliet bring together a wide repertoire of Arabic and European folk music and inspired originals. Their joy in playing is contagious, because they are not only good musicians but also good friends.
