Human hearing is something special. We effortlessly understand speech and recognise music from years back. Hearing does not take place in the ear. Incoming sound waves are filtered, processed and interpreted by the brain. Modern imaging technologies like functional MRI allow us to see the brain ‘in action’, so that we can investigate the processes underlying hearing. In this lecture you will learn how our brain makes sense of the sounds that surround us.
